Screw You, Extroverts

Featured, Personal · August 4, 2012

I am an introvert.

an introvert is a person who is energized by being alone and whose energy is drained by being around other people. – About.com

I don’t open up so easily to others, I am shy and I do not like sharing things.

All my life, I have been hearing that being shy is not a good thing, I should open up, I should share. Basically, being an introvert is a crime!

Introversion is viewed somewhere between disappointment and pathology. – This is coming straight from Forbes!

I have gone through enough for almost 21 years and have seen and heard enough.

Today, I want to give a simple answer:

Screw you, extroverts!

I know you extroverts have majority and you are ruling the world.

50-75% of people are extroverts(different sources say different things!). And since they are loud, they make the rules. Result is a a society which is made by extroverts, for extroverts.

We introverts have no problems with that, as long as we are not bothered!

But wait…..

We are bothered!

As a shy person, this is what all I have heard in last 20 years:

  1. Be open to others.
  2. Do not be shy.
  3. Share what you are thinking.
  4. Try to please others.

Now I ask,

Why should I?

It is my life, and you can not force me to live it your way. If you have a problem with that, get lost!

Being an introvert, I have one good quality:

I care most about myself!

So I won’t give a fuck if you go. If I am happy with situation, your presence or absence won’t make an iota of difference to me!

If you are one of those who think that introverts are not good or can’t do anything, meet World’s Most Famous Introverts.

I love being an introvert, because:

  1. I don’t waste time on useless chit chats, it’s ideas that I talk about. When there’s no idea, I don’t talk!
  2. I live my life for myself, not for show off to get better in other’s eyes!
  3. I spend my time either reading or doing something awesome. Not adding hundreds of friends on Facebook!
  4. I can easily live alone for long times without talking to anyone. Silence is something I enjoy, not something I am afraid of.

If you are an introvert, do not get bullied by the majority of extroverts around. Live your life, being introvert is not a crime!

And next time someone asks you to be open or not shy, show this post to them.

Being an introvert is not a crime — you’re right. But neither is being an extrovert, and you seem to be attacking them in your post. You seem to imply that extroverts are afraid of silence, waste time adding friends on Facebook, etc. That’s silly and could easily apply to introverts too.

Really, we’re all a mix of introvert and extrovert traits. I don’t label people, including myself, as an “introvert” or “extrovert”.

      Hey Daffy,
My bad there, I was not attacking extroverts but the feeling that introverts should try and become like extroverts.
Agree that we are all a mix of the traits but I think one side dominates and I label according to that. Just a personal view though.
      Thanks for the comment!

I am an introvert and I have always been frustrated when my parents push me to mix with others. Honestly I don’t like it. I have been thinking I am flawed to be like that but now I think being flawed or being introvert is just OK.. Thanks to this post.
